Working out of your home definitely can have some disadvantages such as having so many distractions like the telephone, computer and television, chores, mail and the bed calling you. But there are many more powerful advantages and here I list the top five.
1. You can work in your boxers.
I actually sleep in pajamas that are referred in some circles as redneck underwear, i.e. boxers and a t-shirt. So I can get up and go to work without changing and be quite comfortable in my jammies till after lunch if I so choose.
2. You are your own boss.
You don't have anyone pushing you, but you. There are no unrealistic expectations unless you've put them in place. You can work on any project you wish and in any order you wish. There is no bureaucratic BS. You don't have to kiss up to anyone.
3. You can set your own pace.
Taking a three hour lunch break to run much needed errands is OK because you can come back and work into the night. And you can work in the middle of the night if you can't sleep if you so desire. Any deadlines are self imposed.
4. You don't have to call in sick
It's OK if you don't feel good. You don't have to worry about finding someone to fill in for you to make sure your work gets done. No guilt.
5. You set the atmosphere.
Your cat or dog or child can sit on your lap while you work. You can play any kind of music you choose and as loud or as soft as you choose. You can have friends over as you work. The TV can be on in the background if so desired. You can check and answer email.
Personally, my favorite part is working in my boxers. And I just love having friends visit when I'm working in my studio. I get lonely sometimes. My family is very far away. My friends are priceless. They are my heart. And they don't mind my boxers...
